DESIGN: The Episcopal Church Home Memory Care Center was designed from the inside out. We focused on the special needs of residents with dementia. The building consists of two “neighborhoods”, that are home to 52 residents, and a Central Activity area that serves as a gathering space for the entire facility. The “neighborhoods” are divided into four smaller unique “houses”. These houses are based on a residential scale. Each containing only six to seven resident rooms in contrast to institutional scale that has many more. Keeping this residential scale in mind, every effort has been made to design the space to resemble the accommodations of a typical home.
